Engaging with Data
I want to share my strengths, philosophies, and my acquired knowledge to those reading to inspire two things:
1) For you to trust me and what expertise I have so that you might consider me a professional worth engaging with
2) To inspire those who may not consider themselves data analysts to realize that they may – in fact – be data analysts, and that the tools to codify that title are not beyond their reach
Located in Portland, Maine by way of Portland, Oregon – I’ve uncovered a passion for working with data I never could have dreamed of. I’ve worked in a analytical roles since 2012 – creating data driven stories and providing useful data products for stakeholders of all kinds. I absolutely love understanding and explaining the world through data and enabling others and their organizations in the same way.
Do note that I am not a world-class data analyst. Not even close. However, I now understand and accept my specific strengths and broad set of skills which differ from many of my peers. When starting my journey, I initially assumed value resided in difficult concepts and tools that I couldn’t grasp, and that I should focus on learning those things no matter how hard they were for me.
I was an idiot.
Today, instead of ignoring what I am actually good at in favor of things which are difficult and esoteric to me, I embrace my unremarkable technical ability as its own valuable resource. I’ve learned one of the things I actually excel at in the world of data is breaking things down into very simple concepts
As it turns out, this is enormously helpful in the field of data analysis.
